It works until the ground fills up. Then nobody is writing anything down, and by the end of the night the committee genuinely does not know how many people came in or how many paid.

A still image is a still image. If the gate is checking a picture, one paid ticket admits as many people as the group has members — and everyone at the gate can see it happening and cannot prove it.

A thousand people standing on one cell tower is the same as no signal at all. Any gate that needs the internet to say yes stops working at the exact moment the queue is longest.
How it works

Set this per gate and per tier, not once for the whole utsav. Plain codes on the general gate and secure bands on the donor gate, the same night — so you pay for security only where it earns its place.

The architecture

This is the decision the whole system is built around. Everything else — the wristbands, the tiers, the manifest, the amber verdict — follows from refusing to put a network call between a person and the gate they are standing at.
Before the doors open
Every paid pass for tonight — and only tonight — is downloaded to the gate phone, signed so it cannot be edited on the device.
During the rush
No request leaves the device. A scan is as fast with no bars as with five, and a dead tower changes nothing about how the queue moves.
When it is not sure
Rather than guessing yes or guessing no, the screen turns amber, says what it does not know, and records the name of whoever decided.
When signal returns
Every scan, pass or fail, reaches the committee’s live view. Anything that conflicts is flagged for a human to look at afterwards — never used to block someone standing in front of you.
If the list goes stale
A downloaded list has an expiry. A phone left offline too long stops admitting on old data instead of quietly working from last night’s truth.

Every one of these was tried against the design before a line of it was built. They are listed with the answer next to them, including the one there is no software answer to.
One person screenshots their pass and sends it round the family WhatsApp group
The code on screen is rebuilt every fifteen seconds, so a forwarded screenshot stops scanning within about half a minute — and the volunteer sees the holder’s name next to the code.
A family books for four and nine people turn up
A booking for four creates four separate passes, each with its own name. There is no fifth pass to show.
Someone shows last Saturday’s pass at this Saturday’s utsav
The list on the gate phone holds only paid passes for tonight’s date. Last week’s simply is not in it.
A ticket is refunded, and they turn up anyway
The pass is void the moment the refund goes through — immediately if the gate is online, on the next sync if it is not.

You have just read twelve ways people try to get into an utsav without paying. Both things are true at once, and the second is why the first is built the way it is: the check has to be fast, quiet and offline precisely so it does not spoil the welcome. Security here exists to protect hospitality, not to replace it.

Each one is waiting on something outside the software — an SMS account, a piece of hardware, or a rule Apple sets — or on a small tool that needs that hardware first.
One-time codes are fully built — hashed, single-use, capped at five attempts and rate limited so the endpoint cannot be turned into an SMS bill. Nothing reaches a phone until an SMS provider is connected.
A web page can only reach an NFC chip’s simple message area, not the raw commands a secure band needs to be set up. So the secure tier should not be sold until the encoding station below exists — and the server now refuses to bind one the wrong way rather than quietly making a band the gate will reject forever.
No SMS provider is connected, so nothing is sent to a buyer’s phone on its own. The pass opens on their screen when they book and they keep it — copy it, send it to themselves on WhatsApp, or add it to the home screen. The desk can send a link by hand from its own WhatsApp.
Hardware

No scanner guns, no card machines, no laptop at the gate. One Android phone reads both the codes and the wristbands, because it already has a camera and an NFC radio.
For a ground with two or three gates, that is roughly ₹35,000–55,000 once — and it is reused at every utsav after that, not spent again each week. Nothing here is rented from us.

No. A pass is a web link that opens the moment they book, and they keep it — copy it, send it to themselves on WhatsApp, or add it to the home screen. No app, no account, no password — which matters when half your ground is on a phone with no space left on it.
Nothing, at the gate — as long as the gate screen was opened once with signal before the doors open. That download puts tonight’s list on the phone, and every check runs on the device. Scans queue up and sync when signal comes back.
No. An event repeats, and each week is its own night with its own list — so last week’s pass will not open this week’s gate. Your regulars carry over.
Yes, and this is the point of the tiers. Plain codes on the general gate, bands on the gate people go in and out of all night, at the same utsav on the same night. You pay for a band only where you need it.

Hardware cost is added to that tier’s ticket price at checkout — “+₹12 for a wristband” — so it scales with what you actually sell instead of arriving as a bill before the season starts. The app shows you the whole calculation while you are setting the tier up.
The server settles it atomically. One scan wins, the other is refused cleanly — never both.
The network dies in the middle of the aarti rush
The gate was never using it. Tonight’s list is on the phone before the doors open, and every scan is queued and synced when signal returns.
A volunteer waves their friends through without scanning
Every scan and every manual override is logged with the volunteer’s name and the time. Scan count against headcount is a number the committee can check.
Someone tries to build a fake pass from scratch
Passes are signed with a key belonging to that one event. A key that leaks costs you one utsav, not the season.
A wristband is taken off and handed to a friend outside
Close bands with single-use clasps that cannot be refastened — the clasp is the band supplier’s, not ours. Each band is also tied to one name, and the gate shows it.
Someone calls the check-in endpoint directly, skipping the app
Check-in needs a signed-in staff account. An attendee’s phone has no way to reach it at all.
A pass is bought and resold outside the gate
A pass is bound to the number that booked it, and it carries the buyer’s name.
Someone walks in behind a person who scanned correctly
No app stops this — a single-file lane and a rope does. Said plainly because the rest of the list is honest.
Underneath all of it sits the layer no chip replaces: the volunteer sees the holder’s name on every single pass, and their photo where one is on file. The code proves a pass was paid for. A person proves it belongs to the person holding it.

Across identity & access, event configuration, selling & issuance, gate verification, attendee experience, operations & audit, recurring events, permissions & roles, money & attribution, the mandal itself, platform & lifecycle. For an utsav pre-selling hundreds of bands, writing them one at a time at the gate does not scale. The answer is a laptop and a USB encoder writing them the night before. That is hardware and a small tool, not a change to this app.
The cryptography underneath it is verified against every test vector the standard publishes, so that part is proven. The composition on top has not been run against a physical secure tag, because none exists in this project. Treat the secure tier as unproven until it has.
Apple exposes no NFC to a web page at all; it needs a native app. So an iPhone lane runs camera scanning instead, and the app says exactly that rather than showing a tap prompt that could never fire.
Read together, these say one thing: the QR tier is ready to run an utsav tonight, and the secure wristband tier should not be sold until it has met a real tag. The app enforces that rather than trusting anyone to remember it.
Free if your event is free. Paid events: ₹5 per person. Our fee is billed to the mandal after the event; ticket money still goes straight to your UPI. A QR pass needs no hardware. A band is a few rupees of hardware, added to that ticket’s price at checkout, so it scales with what you sell.
The gate screen has one control and two outcomes. When the app is not certain it says so and asks the person holding the phone to decide, rather than guessing — and it records who decided.
An iPhone can show a pass perfectly well. Reading NFC bands from a web page is an Apple restriction, so use an Android phone on the lanes that tap bands. Camera scanning works on both.
It is built for them, and the vocabulary and the flows are shaped around a mandir ground rather than a nightclub door — a family booking, unlimited re-entry, the same faces every week, and a committee rather than a promoter.
